Vincent van Gogh, born on March 30, 1853, in Zundert, Netherlands, and passing away on July 29, 1890, near Paris, France, was a remarkable Dutch painter. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest artists after Rembrandt and a prominent figure in Post-Impressionism. His work is characterized by striking colors, expressive brushwork, and contoured forms, which significantly influenced the current of Expressionism in modern art. Van Gogh’s art gained immense popularity after his death, especially in the late 20th century, with record-breaking auction sales and blockbuster exhibitions. His extensive published letters have also contributed to his mythologization as the quintessential tortured artist.
