Grace Patricia Kelly, also known as Grace of Monaco, was an American actress and Princess of Monaco. She married Prince Rainier III on April 18, 1956, and held the title until her death. Before her marriage, she starred in several significant films during the early to mid-1950s. Notable works include her Academy Award-winning performance in “The Country Girl” (1954) and roles in Alfred Hitchcock’s suspense thrillers such as “Rear Window” (1954) and “To Catch a Thief” (1955). Kelly retired from acting at age 26 to fulfill her duties as Princess of Monaco, where she focused on charity work for children and the arts. Born into a wealthy Irish Catholic family in Philadelphia, she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and made her film debut in “Fourteen Hours” (1951).
